TimeLapse- timing is everything

This is what I did at 1 am on the eve of Christmas eve. It was fun, but a lot of work, and now I have this beautiful piece of artwork to look at on a daily basis.

Just to let anyone who cares know that I hope to have more videos up soon, but in the mean time you can also check out some under the radar stuff I put on a new channel called The Virtual Win right here:

http://www.youtube.com/user/TheVirtualWin

Also the new stuff to come will be much higher quality due to the fact that I got a new camera and a proper editing program for Christmas. In the mean time, thank you for watching and DFTBA.

        Awesomely yours,
        NEON.

Toes- Explained

Being a hardcore Lights fan I'm always really confused by her lyrics because they are very obscure unless you're her. So I've decided to share my interpretation of the song "Toes" off her latest album Siberia which hit stores on October 4th 2011. If you want to purchase said song, it's on iTunes, available for download.

Without any more rambling, here is Toes by Canadian Indie electric artist Lights; explained.

If you are a cliff hanger ending

"a cliff hanger ending" referring to the end of a story that keeps you on edge, or "on your toes" for the sake of this song. I believe the pun was definitely intended here.

I'm the one that doesn't know anything.
Like a magpie and a ring,
I am always gonna be looking right to you.

"magpie and a ring" is a Modern Warfare 3 reference, I believe, correct me if I'm wrong. A magpie is a small bird, origin from England that is attracted to shiny things, like a ring, in this case. In the game, you can use the magpie to retrieve shinny objects.

Fun fact: Video game references are a common thing in Lights music, for she is a pretty hardcore gamer, enjoying console games just as much as the MMO games, like World of Warcraft. She has several tattoos representing objects from WOW and even wrote an entire song about it (see Lions!, off the album The Listening, released in September 2009). She also refers to gaming like "what teleportation is to the Flash" in a video blog (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJ-omMi-WMs), meaning that gaming is a means of escape, as oppose to a slower one, being her usual musical escape.

      Oh, you capture my attention,
carefully listening, don't want to miss a thing,
      Keeping my eyes on you.

The chorus is pretty straight forward, notice though that she infers that capturing ones attention starts with listening to what they have to say, not only with their appearance.

     Got me on my toes.

Once again, decently straight forward, but she does stay on the last syllable of toes for a while implying that perhaps, the time we spend on our toes can just take forever sometimes.

If I were to hide out on the sea,
you'd be whispering from the Westerlies

"The Westerlies" are wind currents that go all around the world, covering every bit of the ocean. Therefore if someone were to be "whispering from the Westerlies" and Lights was out in the middle of the ocean, she would be able to hear said person, and consequently keeping her attention on them, even if they aren't there.

In any book I'll ever read
You'd be the line that sticks out to me.

Since there are so many lines in a book, "a line that sticks out to you" definitely grabs your attention, enough to keep it in your memory.

      Oh, you capture my attention,
carefully listening, don't want to miss a thing,
      Keeping my eyes on you.
      Oh, you capture my attention,
      I'm anticipating, I'm watching, I'm waiting
for you to make your move

The last two lines tell us that even though Lights can describe all these wonderful things about a person, the song only speaks about a single moment that holds so much importance in a relationship, just getting to know them, and maybe hoping the person likes you as much as you like them (trying to make this sound the least cheesy as possible guys, bear with me here).

     Got me on my toes,
     got me on my toes.

This finishes off the song with the most important line of the song, giving it an overlaying completion, but when you put some thought into it, Lights has not made any progress or made any epiphanies during the song, giving the underlying meaning; perhaps the small moment of being on our toes never ends. Maybe thinking about that moment for the rest of our lives won't even bring us any answers. No matter, that moment, that knowledge of finding someone special, may stick with us forever.

There is no summarizing this song quickly, because I think it has so much more meaning then people make it out to have. Maybe no one will ever fully understand what goes on in the crazy, yet beautiful mind of Lights, but this was my rendition and understanding of "Toes".

*disclaimer, disclaimer* once again, only my PERSONAL view and opinion, for all I know, I could be completely wrong, and the only one who can correct me would be Lights herself, but since THAT isn't going to happen any time soon, let me know YOUR understanding or take on the song in the comment section below.

Lasttly here is the music video for "Toes", but I shall leave that review for another day.

Awesomely yours, NEON.
